Boston Brass opens Newport Music Festival’s 50th Anniversary Season with a rousing Fourth of July Extravaganza to celebrate America’s birthday. It begins with the National Anthem and includes an array of familiar tunes honoring members of the U.S. Military – Armed Forces Salute – and presents selections from composers whose experiences in this country are reflected in their music. From Copland’s Simple Gifts to Carmichael’s Stardust, Gershwin’s Summertime to Bernstein’s America, this concert will delight listeners young and old. NMF’s classical music legacy is also represented in J. S. Bach’s Little Fugue in G and Respighi’s Ancient Aires and Dances. The night closes with Tizol and Ellington’s Caravan, showcasing American jazz.
